Jackson Modernises Goods Lift at Coventry’s Lower Precinct Shopping Centre
For those who live in Coventry, the Lower Precinct Shopping Centre will be a well-known and visited shopping location comprising over 25% of the city centre’s retail stores. The Centre dates to post-war times and in recent years has seen the addition of a glass roof covering the mall and the central atrium that includes a free-standing circular two-storey tower with a rotunda cafe serving Italian coffee and food.
For some time, Jackson have been maintaining the lifts at the Lower Precinct Shopping Centre and we have recently been working on the modernisation (February/March 2024) of one of the centre’s 2 stop goods lifts. This will be the sixth of the Centre’s lifts that Jackson will have modernised over our contract period.
The modernisation had become essential, as this well-used goods lift was showing signs of its age and heavy usage. Our initial task was to carry out an inspection of the lift and produce a detailed tender with explanatory notes relating to the safety, equipment status and aesthetics of the lift. The inspection was implemented by a team operating from our Birmingham offices, who were subsequently awarded the contract for the modernisation of the goods lift.
The work relates to the replacement of the lift controller and the associated shaft and car wiring, lift control panel and call landing buttons, new manual shutter gates and a full car reline.
