Modernising Closed Protocol Lifts

Lymington New Forest Hospital is a large community hospital located in Lymington in the Southwest of Hampshire and is managed by the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. The original hospital dates to 1913, when it opened as a cottage hospital serving a local population of only 5,000.

The new Lymington hospital is located at Ampress Park, Lymington and was opened in 2007 with 104 beds spread over five inpatient wards and single rooms. Today, the hospital serves 1.9 million people living in and around Lymington.

The lifts at Lymington New Forest Hospital were installed approximately 17 years ago and one had begun to show signs of ageing. The lift was manufactured with a closed protocol system which had been causing issues for some time. As a result, the Trust was looking for a long-term solution that would improve reliability, limit repair costs, and potentially extend the service life of the lift.

Jackson is extremely proud of the relationships we have fostered and the work we undertake for an incredible number of NHS trusts across the country, and we were delighted to have the opportunity to help when the Trust asked us to assist with a solution to the problem.

As with all projects of this kind, Jackson were asked if we would participate in the tendering process for the modernisation work that was needed. To support this request, one of our local Sales Engineers, operating from our Wimborne offices, visited the hospital to undertake a lift survey to establish what was needed to replace the failing OEM equipment.

We subsequently submitted a detailed report and tender covering the removal and replacement of the lift controller, wiring, and lift car operating panel and were delighted to be informed that our tender had been approved.

Jackson Southwest-based local engineers, working from our Wimborne offices, undertook the modernisation work, taking great care to avoid disturbance to the patients. Once the lift was fully completed and tested, Jackson engineers returned the lift to full service, much to the delight of the hospital’s staff, patients and visitors.
