Jackson Upgrades Goods Lift at Brooks Shopping Centre for Improved Efficiency

When most of us think of lifts in shopping centres, we only think about the passenger lifts that are essential for shoppers. However, to maintain stock levels, goods need to be moved from a loading bay area to the floor where an individual shop is located. This stock movement to a shopping centre’s upper floors will invariably require the use of a goods lift and, in many cases, these use hydraulic technology.

Brooks Shopping Centre, located in Winchester’s town centre, is a classic example of a shopping centre with loading bays accessed via a goods entrance. Installed some time ago, the Brooks Shopping Centre goods lift was beginning to show signs of its age as well as poor energy performance. The centre’s management team were looking for a modernisation solution that would improve both reliability and energy efficiency.

As a result, Jackson Lift Services, operating from our Wimborne offices and covering the Winchester area, were asked by the centre’s lift consultants to provide costings and a modernisation time frame to undertake the work. Following a detailed site survey by one of our Regional Sales Engineers, we submitted a detailed estimate for the modernisation of the centre’s large through-car goods lift. This included the installation of a new hydraulic system lift controller, new door operators at each end of the lift car, new car operating and landing pushes, indicators and lighting.

Following on from budget approval from the Centre, Jackson local engineers, covering the Winchester area, undertook the modernisation work, completing and fully testing the lift prior to it being returned to service within the agreed programme date.
