Jackson modernises a 19-year-old OEM MRL lift adjacent to a Grade II listed Shot Tower
The three-storey office accommodation was constructed in 2005 and incorporated the 42m tall Cheese Lane Shot Tower, making it the centrepiece of the development. The tower, which holds a Grade II English Heritage Listing and is no longer used for its original purpose, is one of only three surviving shot towers in England.
For some time, Jackson Bristol has been maintaining the three-storey OEM passenger lift at the Vertigo building. During our routine maintenance visits Jackson engineers identified some potential future problems with the lift, principally due to its age and the closed protocol equipment that the lift uses.
Following on from reading the lift status reports generated by our engineers, we produced a condition report along with an estimate for modernising the lift’s control system, which we submitted for consideration by the building owners and their consultants.
Subsequently, we were asked to provide a competitive estimate for the replacement of the lift controller, car operating panel and the full rewire of the lift. Shortly after the submission of our estimate, we were pleased to hear that our customer wanted us to undertake the work.
Local Jackson engineers, operating from our Bristol office, undertook the modernisation work, taking great care to overcome any inconvenience to Vertigo’s occupants or their visitors. Now, with the lift back in service, future problems associated with an aging closed protocol lift system have been overcome.
